Phishing - (1) you receive official-looking "craigslist" email asking you to login (2) email links to fake login page (3) scammer steals your login/password (4) scammer logs in to your CL account and posts scam ads.

  • Remember that craigslist only emails when you request something. When you post, you receive a confirmation e-mail. When you change your password, you receive an email with instructions on how to do so.
  • Be wary of any link in any email you receive -- particularly if it goes to a login or registration page.
  • Check the URL in your browser carefully to make sure you are on the real craigslist site and not a fake.
  • Do not respond to emails that seem suspicious.

NEVER click on links in e-mails that ask you to log into your craigslist account. ALWAYS log in to your account by visiting the website directly at craigslist.org.

If you discover ads in your account that you did not post, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD and delete the ads. You may also want to change the password on your email account.
